Dota 2 - 10 Quick Tips for Beginners
Choose a hero guide at the start of each game. Click
on the book at the top left corner of the screen to pull up the guide
system. Click the arrow to see a list of the most popular guides. Click
on OK at the bottom to use the guide. Guides can be written or viewed
online here.
Make the tower stop attacking you. Attack
one of your allied creeps, even one full on HP. Under most
circumstances the tower will switch to attacking whatever is closest.
Mind the creep line. If the enemy has 2 more creeps than you, backup. If you have 2 more creeps than your enemy, attack them.
Always carry a tp. After
the 5 minute mark, always carry a teleport scroll (TP). Use your TP to
join fights across the map, or to run home if you're low. You can double
click on a TP to teleport back to the fountain.
Runes spawn every 2 minutes. If
you have a bottle and right click on a rune, it will be stored in your
bottle, also filling it with 3 drinks again. The bottle does not have to
be empty to store a rune.
Wards save lives. Use
wards near commonly used paths to see the enemy coming. Wards placed on
high ground see further. The most common ward locations are marked with
pictures of an eye. Other common ward spots are covered in shrubbery.
Bring detection. Dust of appearance, sentry wards and gem of truesight can all be used to see invisible heroes.
Never fight uphill. You have a 25% chance to miss when attacking uphill. Standing on stairs and ramps count as being downhill.
Juke through trees. When retreating, never run in a straight line. Weave in and out through trees instead.
Calmer people usually play better. If
someone is aggravating you through chat/voice, use the score board to
mute them. If they're really, really dickish, report them for
communication abuse. When someone gets enough reports, they lose the
ability to type/speak temporarily. Make a deliberate effort to stay calm
and rational during games to improve faster. Rage is always the wrong
choice.
